Aetnada.com, the first transgender shopping site in the United States, opened for business Thursday.
The company has set up shop in the nation’s capital.
Aetna CEO Kevin O’Reilly said the site is aimed at providing transgender shoppers with the best selection of health and beauty products and services.
“I want to say that it’s a very different experience to what you’re used to when shopping at other retailers, because we’re not the retail chain,” O’Brien said at the opening.
“We’re not a department store.
We’re a service provider, and we’re very excited about the opportunity to bring this platform to the nation and the world.”
The site is a joint venture between O’Bryan Inc. and the Washington-based nonprofit group Aetnas Alliance.
The Aetnai Foundation, a nonprofit foundation dedicated to helping transgender people, will run the site.
The alliance is comprised of the major national retailers including Wal-Mart, Target, Home Depot, Nordstrom, and Best Buy.
O’Dell said the alliance has agreed to partner with Aetnam to provide the service.
Aetnam is offering free membership to Aetnan’s Transgender Market, which will allow members to buy health and makeup online and in-person. “
I’m thrilled to be a part of this exciting journey to create an inclusive, inclusive, and welcoming environment for our customers.”
