A former employee of a luxury shopping site has been fired for allegedly stealing customer details from his personal website, the company said.
The case comes amid growing concern about hackers, identity theft and other scams, particularly in India, where more than half of the population does not have a bank account.
The employee allegedly stole customer information for more than a decade.
“We are not able to confirm that the information was indeed stolen from our website,” a company spokesperson said.
Earlier this month, a former employee at a luxury hotel chain in the United States was fired after a complaint he was trying to steal customer data.
